Instilling Healthy Habits!!

This week was once again full of activities in the routine of our kindergarteners: races, audio video presentations and competitions, all depicting the importance of Healthy Food and Junk Food in leading a healthy lifestyle. This month’s competition was Fancy Dress which was presented with a lot of colorful costumes. Children came dressed in their colorful costumes and spoke a few sentences on the positives of eating healthy food and on the negatives of eating junk food; whatever they were depicting.

 Also, Fun-Races were organized for KG classes where children collected only healthy food in their bowls on their way to the win. Children used the names of their favorite food after winning and rejected junk food in their respective race tracks.

 It was a fun-filled learning experience for the tiny tots too as they gained collective information on eating healthy food and turning junk food into healthy eatable item.

Kindergarten Puppet Show

“Two little houses all closed up tight
Open up the window and let in the light
Ten little finger people tall and straight
Ready for the school after Summer Break!”

The scorching heat of the prolonged summer season could not stop the zeal and enthusiasm of our young Salwanians to gear up and mark their first day in the school. All children were welcomed with open arms and big smiles into their classes and shared their experiences of their summer visits to numerous places.
The young Kindergarteners kick started their week with a colorful Puppet Show depicting the story of a Mango Tree, going through all seasons. This puppet-story highlighted the changing seasons and its characteristics with respect to the changing phases of a tree.
Every child enjoyed the story as it boosted their imagination with beautiful picture cutouts. They enthusiastically asked all sorts of questions which the teachers were delighted to answer!

‘Joy of Giving’ programme – newspapers for the FAMILY OF DISABLED

We need to teach our children to give away their things so that they turn to be compassionate and humble adults and the world is a better place to live.
To develop this habit among our students we have tied up with an NGO ‘Family of Disabled’ headed by Mr. Rajinder Johar, whose honourable work was also appreciated in the program Satyamev Jayate. This NGO helps the disabled people by giving them wheel chairs, tricycles, hearing aids, crutches, etc. To help them, ‘Joy of Giving’ activity has been introduced wherein students of all the classes are motivated to bring two old newspapers from home on every Wednesday and put them in the box provided in the school.  The van from this NGO comes and takes these newspapers from school.
These newspapers will be either sold as scrap and the money used for supporting their cause or made into envelopes providing employment to the disabled and later these envelops will be sold in the market generating money to provide wheel chairs, loans, children’s education of disabled parents, etc.
In these times when we as well as the children feel stressed doing something nice at the end of the day will help us and our children to be peaceful at heart. So, we have jointly started this effort and hope it would be a successful one. It is a very small token to part away with and to introduce our children ‘Joy of Giving’.
If you further wish to know about the the NGO ‘Family of Disabled’ you can take a look at their website http://familyofdisabled.org/
As it is rightly said,
Before giving…the mind of the giver is happy;
While giving…the mind of the giver is peaceful;
Having given…the mind of the giver is uplifted.         -Buddha

Honouring the Hard Work

“All Labor That Uplifts Humanity
Has Dignity and Importance
And should be undertaken with painstaking Excellence…”
All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work. Therefore to honor the workers of our school and to highlight their importance in the working of the school, we celebrated their hard work, dignity and labor through Labor Day on 1st May’14 with great aplomb and enthusiasm.
A special programme was organized which started with the school prayer followed by School Choir where children sang songs in their honor and a spectacular classical dance performance engulfed the audiences in the ecstatic ambience.

Towards the end, each and every worker was honored for their area of expertise with a short poem and a hand-made greeting card made by children with love and respect. In addition to this, exciting games were organized like relay race, hit the target, lemon spoon race, hoopla and musical chairs. The children were excited to show support for their favorite employee and encouraged everyone with thunderous applause and rewards by the school. We believe in working with all our hands and putting up the best for the children and our employees as that is the essence of having: Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.
